Team#

The Catalyst Project Core Team includes personnel from seven open science organisations, listed alphabetically below. To find out more about the individual team members check out the People page.

2i2c (The International Interactive Computing Collaboration)

2i2c logo

2i2c’s mission is to make research and education more impactful, accessible, and delightful by developing, operating, and supporting infrastructure for interactive computing.

Catalyst Project role: 2i2c designs, deploys, and maintains JupyterHubs on multiple cloud platforms and is responsible for providing the infrastructure for the communities on the Catalyst Project. 2i2c is also developing technical and user documentation for use in community training.

The Carpentries

The Carpentries logo

The Carpentries build global capacity in essential data and computational skills for conducting efficient, open, and reproducible research through training, community building, and curriculum development.

Catalyst Project role: The Carpentries is connecting communities with the project, focusing on the African continent. The organisation is also supporting the development and delivery of training at several stages of the project.

CCAD - Centro de Computación de Alto Desempeño de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba

CCAD logo

CCAD is the HPC centre of the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. CCAD has a tradition of bottom-up development in HPC. We solve the computational needs of the science and technology community at the university. We believe in computing as a way to push science in the Global South – we do a lot with a little.

Catalyst Project role: CCAD is in charge of the secondment of an open infrastructure engineer at 2i2c, to learn how to deploy community hubs. This is also an opportunity for 2i2c to learn if their approach is replicable in on-premises computing infrastructure.

CSCCE (Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement)

CSCCE logo

CSCCE is a training and research centre to professionalise and institutionalise the role of the community engagement manager within science. Underpinned by an ethos of collaborative, evidence-based activities and the development of network-centric leaders, CSCCE offers cohort-based learning, consultancy, and an online community of practice.

Catalyst Project role: CSCCE is working as part of the Strategy and Guidance Team to support the initial setup of the Core Team. CSCCE is also supporting discussions about community engagement activities, and resharing learnings about team-building and community building more broadly.

IOI (Invest in Open Infrastructure)

IOI logo

IOI works to increase the investment in and adoption of open infrastructure to further equitable access to and participation in research and to provide targeted, evidence-based guidance and support to institutions and funders of open infrastructure.

Catalyst Project role: IOI conducted initial research into governance activities and designed an early-stage governance and sustainability plan for the Catalyst Project, which is being piloted by the projects sub-teams and participating community partners.

MetaDocencia

MetaDocencia logo

MetaDocencia’s mission is to advance innovation with a local perspective that responsibly builds scientific and technical capacities through the co-creation of networks, learning spaces, and accessible resources for Spanish-speaking communities.

Catalyst Project role: MetaDocencia is identifying communities in Latin America to participate in Catalyst, and onboarding and connecting them to other project partners. MetaDocencia is also assisting with contextualising lesson materials to Latin American audiences, designing the Catalyst project’s governance, and developing and improving documentation.

OLS (Open Life Science)

OLS logo

OLS is an open science capacity building organisation with a mission to upskill, connect and support a distributed network of ambassadors enabling the adoption of open science principles in their local communities.

Catalyst Project role: OLS hosts the programme manager for the Catalyst Project, and provides open science training and mentoring for participating community partners.
